About My Photographic Style and Approach
I am a classically trained fine art photographer who grew up with the Ansel Adams approaches and techniques. I studied fine art photography in the Fine Arts School of Ohio University in the 1969 -1972 when Minor White’s son was Dean. Minor White was Ansel Adams’ partner in developing and publishing the famous “Zone System Manual” which sits at the core of Adams technique. He controlled the process from pre-planning the image, its exposure, development, and the final print; a discipline to which I am committed albeit in a digital world.
I believe that my role and responsibility is to capture an image that communicates its story with light and subject matter; ideally with a single pre-planned exposure. The exception to the single exposure objective is the natural world of whales, eagles, etc which require rapid multiple exposures to capture a moving subject such as a breaching humpback whale. I do lightly use post-production tools such as Adobe’s Lightroom and Photoshop, etc. but very sparingly to visualize the image’s raw digital file; and not to artificially alter the image (“heavily photoshopped”).
I am enjoying being back into photography in my retirement after a career in sales, marketing, and management consulting. All photographs are for sale except portfolios containing people and commercial images. Please contact me regarding images that you wish to purchase; and we’ll discuss the available printing techniques to meet your requirements (e.g., high quality print on archival museum grade paper on mat board or gator board, dye infused metal, canvass, acrylic, multi-image panorama, etc.)
Please scroll through my work which is organized into subject portfolios of seascapes, landscapes, people, travel and the natural world portfolios.
